    Handkerchief Care

Recommended Care Tips:

I. Do Not Overdry

Avoid high-heat tumble drying.

We recommend air-drying when possible or, if using a low-heat tumble dry, removing handkerchiefs while they are still slightly damp to avoid overdrying, and hang to finish.

High temperatures are harmful on the handkerchief's fibers. They set wrinkles in and make them harder to remove.

II. Wrinkles

It is typical for handkerchiefs to experience a fair amount of wrinkling. This is characteristic of linen fabric and should not be a cause for concern.

To avoid excessive wrinkling, remove handkerchiefs from the wash as soon as possible and avoid overdrying.

If handkerchiefs come out wrinkled, rewet with water to allow their shape to return and air-dry to finish. Using a steam iron or steamer will also remove wrinkles.

III. Avoid Fabric Softeners and Dryer Sheets

We recommend avoiding fabric softeners and dryer sheets as they work by building up a film on the fabric that inhibits the handkerchief's absorbency

Handkerchiefs will naturally soften over time.

Quick Take

Wash in cool water with a mild detergent & hang to dry

Washing

Washing at or below 140°F is recommended. A gentle spin cycle and high water level will ensure the best result. Do not overload the washer.

Avoid bleach and optical brighteners. Both have the potential of degrading the handkerchief's linen fibers.

Try to rinse and soak any stains immediately while they are still fresh. Pre-treat prior to washing. Heavy stains may require gentle rubbing and soaking with stain removers.

Drying

Hang dry when possible.

Handkerchiefs are safe to low-heat tumble dry.

They should always be removed from the dryer while they are still slightly damp and air-dried to finish, to avoid overdrying. Do not overload the dryer.

A low-heat tumble dry will result in the softest finish.

Ironing

Iron handkerchiefs while they are still slightly damp. If beginning from dry, lightly rewet handkerchiefs prior to ironing.

A stream iron, without starch, will work best.

Dry Cleaning

Dry cleaning is unnecessary and not recommended.
