Vala Alta asked me to write about how I am using this. I am going to assume this is a joke or they really think I am using it for some other use than as expected.
So, yes. I blow my nose in this. A lot (allergies and colds, right?). What I love about rough linen is that it dries so quickly. A cotton hanky will stay soggy for hours. Linen? Nope! Dries very quickly. I also wash them by hand and hang them to dry. They are ready to go the next morning.
Get a pile of these. You can thank me, and Vala Alta, later.
The quality is very nice and I enjoy the earthy colors. So far the handkerchiefs feel comfortable on my nose and face, but I'm not worried about them ripping.
There was some confusion with my first order, but after I placed another one, it arrived in only a few days and the other batch came shortly after. I didn't intend to have so many, but now I really enjoy swapping these out for daily use to have on hand for any purpose!

Irish Linen Heritage Box - 16" John
Beautiful product in a keepsake box with a beautiful presentation. I love my Vala Alta hankies, but this Heritage Box is next level.
My son and I both have allergies. I was tired of carrying kleenex, which would roll-up and get dusty in my purse. I decided to try these, and so far they work really well and are so beautiful as well. They remind me of my grandfather, who always had one in his pocket.
I specifically wanted the Monaco red, but what I received was like a rust color. And that color was really the only reason I ordered. The photo is very deceiving, the color is vibrant, but what I received wasn't. I was so sad. The quality is lovely, but I didn't get what I thought I ordered. Again, the quality is lovely, and it's a nice product.
Love the color, love the linen. The size (12x12) is a bit too small for a true handkerchief. It folds up into a chip. A little larger and it would be the perfect handkerchief.

Utility plus
My second set of the 12 inch handkerchiefs. This time, all colors because the white ones don't stay bright enough for me without extra care. Great product that puts any cotton to shame.
Absorbable, so much better than cotton. Purchased for his birthday and he loves them. Fluffed when they were washed.. Edges finished nicely. No more wet pockets.
Crafted from premium Irish Linen and sewn with care in the USA, these handkerchiefs are made to withstand years of daily use. Durable, dependable, and only better with age.
Step 1. Premium European Flax
Our flax is grown in the rich coastal soils of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands—the world’s premier flax-growing region. The cool, damp climate and centuries of agricultural expertise produce longer, stronger fibers that spin into finer, more durable linen. No shortcuts. Just premium raw material from farms that have mastered this crop for generations.
Step 2. 100% Irish Linen
Once harvested, our flax heads to Northern Ireland, where it’s transformed into linen using time-honored weaving traditions. Irish linen has long been prized for its strength, breathability, and unmatched hand-feel. It’s more than just a fabric—it’s a legacy. Every yard is the result of generations of craftsmanship and a commitment to doing things right.
Step 3. Cut & Sewn in the USA
We bring that legacy home. Each handkerchief is cut and sewn in small batches by skilled manufacturing partners in New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. With precision edges, reinforced corners, and consistent quality, our American-made finishing ensures that every piece meets the highest standards—from the first stitch to the final fold.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! We can ship international, however we are unable to account for any additional duties, fees or taxes (VAT, etc.) that buyers could be charged when the package arrives in their country. Additionally, we are unable to cover the cost for international shipping, even above our normal free shipping minimums.
Our handkerchiefs are made of a prewashed linen fabric so shrinkage should be kept to 3% or less. To prevent even minimal shrinkage - avoid tumble drying on high heat. We recommend washing in cool water & air-drying. If overdried, handkerchiefs may wrinkle, however they should return to normal dimensions after rewetting or ironing.
Any handkerchief that doesn't wrinkle isn't one that you want; that means it's made of synthetic fibers which are poor for functionality & the environment. We love linen's natural, lived-in look, especially because our handkerchiefs are made for use, not for show.
According to the E.P.A., over 7.6 billion pounds of paper tissues & towel waste is created in the U.S. each year. This is a problem because most tissues are made from virgin-fiber (fresh cut trees), as they produce the softest and most absorbent tissues.
We believe that this is an inefficient useof valuable forestry resources
According to the WWF wood products can be reused up to 7 times – meaning that tissues, paper towels, and other short-lived paper products would be great candidates for recycled paper.
Reserving timber for projects that extend the useful life of forestry resources.
Some retailers do offer tissues made from recycled fibers. The NRDC's "Issue with Tissue" Report is a great place to check out a list of these companies.
Not at all, the beauty of handkerchiefs lies in their endless utility. Absorb the elements of the the outdoors, wipe your sweat at the gym or in yoga, use them as an eco-friendly way to dry your hands in public, the list goes on. Handkerchiefs adapt to the day-to-day needs of your life!
Yes, in fact, handkerchiefs often improve personal hygiene by providing a contactless way of covering coughs and sneezes & offer a handsfree way of touching your face (keep those pores clean!). All that matters is that handkerchiefs are washed after daily use and your hands are kept clean, which you do already.
We each spend approximately $55.27 per year* on tissues, paper towels & napkins, however by switching to handkerchiefs you can cut that number significantly.
We'd like to dodge the tissue tax and stop wasting money on garbage as much as possible.
*Computed by taking the total household paper spend per person and subtracting out the percentage attributable to toilet paper.
